
Spread Awareness: A List of Atlanta Community Events You Can Support
Imagine waking up knowing you only have one month to live. Imagine experiencing pain on a day to day basis from the one person you love the most. Imagine suffering from an illness that is completely out of your control. Unfortunately, this is the normality of individuals daily lives. October is a popular month, known for its awareness due the yearly commitment from individuals who help spread the awareness. Many of us have or know of family members, friends, or classmates battling breast cancer, AIDS, domestic violence and etc. This is a main reason you should become an avid supporter of spreading awareness. Enabling others to become aware of problematic issues or illnesses is an amazing opportunity to teach the community ways to prevent these unfortunate circumstances.There are countless opportunities to support survivors and fighters who are battling these daily challenges. From Breast cancer to AIDS there are always plenty of events swarming the Atlanta community. Accept the challenge this October and make a difference by both supporting and informing the individuals of your community and becoming involved in the community events listed below:
HIV & AIDS Awareness (AIDS Walk Atlanta)
This October 18th, become involved by either volunteering or participating in the 25th annual AIDS Walk Atlanta and 5k run.
Breast Cancer Awareness (Bowling for Boobs)
ParticipatE in the 8th Annual Bowling for Boobs. This will take place on Thursday October 15, from 4:30-10pm at Midtown bowl. Be sure to gather up family and friends to create a team in support of Breast Cancer Awareness.
Domestic Violence Awareness (Walk A Mile in her Shoes )
Participate in the “Walk a Mile in her Shoes: Community 5k Walk/Run against domestic violence. This will take place at Riverdale Town Center, 7200 Church Street at 8:30 am.
Mental Illness Awareness (NAMI Walks Rome)
On Saturday, October 10th at 9am the 2015 NAMI Walks Rome will take place at Heritage Park. The National Alliance on Mental Illness is is a 5k walk in support of mental illness awareness.
Drug Awareness (Red Ribbon Week)
This week is dedicated to the youth to inform them on the impact of drugs. This year help spread the serious effects of drugs and celebrate red ribbon week at Mechanicsville. Come out on October 23rd-31st from 10:00am-5:30pm at Mechanicsville Branch Library.
