How to make your morning more enjoyable

Everyone has highs and lows that they learn from, but every morning I start off with a good head on my shoulders, saying to myself “It’s going to be a great day” -Lindsey Lohan

Is Monday morning and your alarm goes off. What do you do? A) Hit snooze or B) Wake up with a smile on your face. If you are anything like me, you have probably already hit the snooze button like four times. I am the first to admit that I am not a morning person. The idea of waking up on a Monday morning is so dreadful in my head. Not everyone is a morning person. Being a morning person requires motivation and energy to get up and do something with your life. As I am getting older, I now understand the benefits of waking up early. 1) You have the whole day to get work one and 2) you could even sneak in a little nap during the day. If you are struggling with waking up in the morning, here are some times to look forward to in order to make your day more enjoyable.

Put the technology down

Cell phones and laptops are the number one reason why people do not get enough sleep at night. How many times have you found yourself going to bed 3 hours later because you were so caught up on Twitter or Buzzfeed. Studies have shown that those who stay up late on technology have a higher chance at having a grumpy morning. Try to get at least 8 hours of sleep a night so you can feel more recharged and ready to go in the morning.

Find an inspiration before you go to bed

People will always do the things they enjoy first and put off the tedious work for later. Waking up early is tedious work for me, but I am always excited to wake up early when I am looking forward to something in the morning. Remember when you were a kid and you use to be so excited to wake up on the mornings you knew something fun was going to happen. Find that same inspiration and go forward. Do not forget that inner kid in you. Some of us need it even in our adult years.

Work it out

Exercise has so many benefits that people overlook. Working out in the morning has been proven to make you 3 times happier throughout the day. The endorphin’s that are released during workouts are what reduces the stress of the body. Create a workout regime that you could stick to in the morning. Jogging or using the treadmill are the most common workouts in the morning.

Find a morning jam

If you do not know anything about The SOA Brand, you know we love Scandal, we love creating stories, and we love Beyonce. Every morning I play “Flawless” on my way to class or work and I am feeling myself. Beyonce has a way of making you feel like you can conquer the world with absolutely nothing. Spend time finding your Monday motivation song that describes your life perfectly.

Breathe

Stop what you’re doing and just breathe. Life can get a little stressful sometimes, but we need to remember to meditate. Before you start your day, take 3 minutes to just think about nothing. Forget about all the deadlines and the projects you have to do. We get so caught up in life sometimes, that we forget we are still people. It can make a major difference in your performance to catch your breath before you throw yourself to the wolves.

Self-motivation

Keep a personal notepad by your bed filled with inspirational quotes and ideas. When you wake up every morning, write something uplifting into the notepad. The notepad comes in handy on those days you do not feel like getting up. Another helpful method is setting up reminders on your phone with inspirational quotes throughout the morning. That way when you go to hit the snooze button and you see “Beyonce was up 3 hours ago”, you feel more motivated to get up and get your life together.

The only person that has control of your happiness is you. First off be thankful for even waking up every morning. Then remind yourself why you’re up. What is your purpose for today? Whose life are you going to make a difference in today? How is today going to help you get closer to your goal? Everybody is going to have those days, but make sure that your highs always outweigh your lows.
