Woosah: How to Decompress Under Stress

Let’s face it LIFE is stressful and at any moment if you’re anything like me you can be completely and utterly overwhelmed with stress. It takes time, but everyone needs to develop stress relieving techniques to fight the stress battle in the heat of the moment. Here are some tips to decompress under stress and help you to not to completely loose your mind.

Just STOP

You have five different projects due on the same day, you’re in and out of meetings all day, and you’re dealing with your own personal issues. Just stop. Stop what you’re doing leave the office for a minute and literally cease all activities, take some “me” time. Sometimes in the heat of the moment the best thing to do is to do nothing. Leave everything that is stressing you out and take a five minute breather, get fresh air, take a walk, make a coffee run. Do anything that will remove you from the stressful situation and just relax. Doing this helps you to have time to develop a game plan on how to tackle those issues when you return.

Engage your senses

Aromatherapy is one of the easiest and helpful therapeutic gestures a person can do to promote the well being of their physiological and psychological health. In the midst of a stress storm, light a candle or enjoy the aroma of a scented oil burner. Brew fresh coffee or make your favorite tea, there are several ways to let your smell senses do the healing. Find relaxing aromatherapy oils that soothe you like: Clary sage, Tea tree, and Lavender, these oils have the natural ability to calm you and can be burned or directly applied to the skin. There are several stress relief lotions that you can also try that encompasses many of these essential oils your body needs to naturally calm itself down.

Take a Vine or YouTube break

Just the anticipation of laughing significantly decreases levels of the stress hormones dopac, cortisol, and epinephrine, according to researchers at Loma Linda University in California.Go to your favorite funny vine follower of your favorite funny YouTube page and just laugh.

Manage your plate

There is no avoiding the busy day-to-day schedules that most of us have just in order to make a living. But there is a way to make that these busy schedules a lot less overwhelming and more productive, simply by prioritizing. Every morning list out your tasks and prioritize them. Go from the most important to the least important. Handle important tasks first and eliminate unessential tasks. By doing so you give yourself time to “breathe” and make the best use of your time.

Talk it out

Everyone needs that one confidant , that one person that they can tell anything to . For me that my best friend, in the heat of a stressful moment I will never hesitate to pick up the phone and call her. I can wine, I can cry, I can complain, but most of all I can get it all out. It times of stress the best thing you can do is just let it all out. Whether you call you mom, your spouse, your coworker, or even write it in your journal. Express yourself, let all the stress and emotions you are experiencing out.  People love helping people and talking with someone can help you greatly.
