The kickoff of this year’s biggest bowl game is mere hours away so we thought we’d share some last minute tips to hosting a fantastic, sporty watch party.

1. Drinking games galore! Set up your own rules or check online for some ridiculous tips. Current favorites: shots when Peyton Manning shouts “Omaha!”, touchdown chugs, and a solid drink any time someone mentions the fact that both Seattle and Denver have recently legalized some fun new “performance enhancers”. Remember, no driving, don’t mix beer and liquor, and above all, have fun!

2. Appetizers don’t need to be bank-breakers. Thirty dollars can get you a solid amount of chips, salsa, cheese, and veggies. It’s also always smart to check businesses for Super Bowl deals and discounts. Many take out restaurants offer good catering options for the day so stay sharp and keep browsing. A really easy snack can be done with tortilla chips, shredded cheese, salsa, and chopped green onions. Layer a baking tray with tortilla chips and cover with a hearty layer of shredded cheese. Drizzle salsa on top of the cheesy chips and bake at 350 for about 10 minutes. Sprinkle the chopped green onions on top and you have a simple, quick bake nachos recipe.

3. Make a day out of it. Who says the fun has to start and stop along with the game? Rent a movie or two for before the game and afterwards plan out a course of desserts and drinks. Gather up some great friends, great food, and even greater drinks and go from dawn until dusk.

4. Let out your interior decorator. Sports decorations are so widely available so make sure to put up a banner or two supporting your team! Set up a friendly wager or two for the outcome of the game as well (caution: I’ll make it known that I’m only supporting the Seahawks by default. I can’t support the Broncos after they beat my Chiefs so many times this past season.) Some solid decorations will be all it takes to put everyone in a sporty mood.

There you have it! Some last minute party tips from the least sporty member of the SOA team. But that’s half the fun of it isn’t it? You can enjoy the game without being a football buff. It’s all about how you do it!
